Who goes on our tours? Anyone who wants to see beautiful destinations as an artist. We have beginners to experts, even non-painters (non-artist rate available) who take advantage of the time to explore and have their own adventures. We’ve also had many students bring family and friends or just come alone and make new friends. Many of our students are repeat guests. We’ve researched and visited our locations so we can help you make the most of each day. While we are teaching primarily watercolor, with collage and journaling added. You are welcome to work with any medium you choose, or just sketch and journal. Theresa and Cindy are both proficient in pastels, acrylics and oils. Our class size averages 6 to 8 students per instructor—compare that to 20 students to 1 instructor in other traveling workshops. Our minimum is 12 students.
How do I get to Santa Margherita, Italy? Easiest route is to fly to Genoa then take a taxi to the hotel in Santa Margherita. You can also get there by train from Genoa, Milan and Rome, just expect to make a few transfers. Talk to your travel agent and see what works best for you. The hotel is an easy walk from the train station.
Art Supply & Packing List. You are welcome to bring whatever professional quality watercolors you have. Simplify as much as possible, you only need a few brushes, watercolors and watercolor paper in whatever form you prefer (in a journal or separate sheets), along with a water container. Feel free to also work in other mediums. An easel is not necessary, you can even skip bringing a stool and find a bench to sit on while visiting towns. The simpler you pack the more you’ll paint. We will send a detailed list of our preferred supplies upon signup. We also provide a suggested packing list, what to carry on the plane, what to pack in your check in bag(s) and how to simplify so you aren’t paying extra for a lot of luggage. Travel Insurance is recommended in case of illness, injury, family emergencies, trip cancellation, etc (last year I had a guest who had a bicycle accident just prior to the trip and had to cancel, she was able to get full reimbursement for canceled trip—including airline tickets.) If you purchase within 15 days of paying your initial deposit from www.travelguard.com you can possibly obtain trip cancellation in case you have to cancel for personal or business reasons. Package fees are non-refundable. If we have to cancel then all payments to Make Every Day A Painting Workshops will be refunded. We’ve been successfully filling our workshops in Europe for 10 years, but as we all know, times are unpredictable and we must have a 12 student minimum to make it a go.
Thinking about it? Just give us a call or email us, we’ll be happy to answer any questions. We can send you a Paypal invoice online for the $350 deposit per person due January 10, 2012 (plus 3.3% service charge) or mail a check. 50% balance due early March, with the rest due on April 1st, 2012. What is a typical day like? Each day we will meet up at a prearranged time to paint. We will travel to the location selected for the day and then set up to paint. Cindy and Theresa will provide demonstrations to help you through the process of taking what inspires you through the design process then on to a captivating painting. You are free to paint along with us or find your own spot and paint on your own. Our most recent copy of “Make Every Day a Painting” makes a handy reference during our workshops, and will be provided on the first day of the workshop. Group critiques (no worries) will be scheduled around our adventures. We will visit nearby locations and paint plein air (this is not a studio workshop). Yes, you will have plenty of time to paint and explore. Of course, you are always free to follow your heart and do your own thing on any day. We encourage you to step away and explore a little on your own. |
