Approach to painting...Capturing sunlight with a paintbrush in her hand, Cindy Briggs travels from Central Oregon to around the world to share her vision in her sundrenched paintings. Painting plein air whenever possible, Briggs thrives on the experience of finding a location that inspires her soul. Following a quick thumbnail value study to capture the light and shadow shapes, she observes and draws a continuous contour line in pencil on Fabriano 300 lb paper the foundation of her painting. Using a select palette of transparent Daniel Smith watercolors she paints direct with a wet-in-wet method that allows the colors to mix and mingle serendipitously on the page. Then, adding calligraphic brush stokes and layering paint to create a range a values. Some paintings can be painted in minutes or take many days to complete. Often, paintings and sketches finished on location are taken back to the studio to become larger studio paintings in watercolor, pastel and oil.
