Overlooking the Cascade Mountains from her Bend, Oregon studio, artist, Cindy Briggs finds the interplay of sunlight and shadow a constant inspiration for her award winning ethereal watercolors. Painting both plein air and in the studio, she loves exploring Europe and the US to discover soul inspiring locations for her work.“Watercolor inspires my soul—like life—the more I make the most of it’s inherent unpredictable qualities the more interesting it becomes. My goal is to reverently capture the essence of my subjects with captivating color, meaningful dynamic composition, and spontaneous brushwork .”A working artist for over 25 years, Briggs is a native of Colorado and shares the creative gene with four generations of her family. Encouraged to pursue the arts— she attended Brigham Young University on an art scholarship and earned a degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Art History. Briggs then worked 15 years as an Advertising Art Director for major firms in LA, San Francisco and Seattle fine tuning her design and marketing skills. Her clients ranged from Levi Strauss & Co. to K2, Sunkist and Universal Studios. Following her dream, she quit advertising to focus on painting. Along with being mentored by her Aunt, Artist Ellie Weakley, she has studied with numerous leading artists including Linda Doll, Jan Kunz, Cathy Goodale, Jean Grastorf, Carolyn Anderson, Charles Reid and Frank Webb.Awarded a Signature Membership in the Northwest Watercolor Society in 2002, her work has been recognized in numerous juried shows including the National Watercolor Society Shows in 2009 and 2010. Her work has been published in Watercolor Magazine along with numerous periodicals and newspapers. Briggs is also a juried member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon, High Desert Art League, and a member of NWS. She has served as a chair and juror for Local, regional and National Shows. The co-author of a step-by-step comprehensive watercolor manual, Make Every Day a Painting; Cindy Briggs currently teaches private and group workshops in the US and leads popular international workshops touring Provence, Tuscany, Umbria, the Amalfi Coast, Turkey and Greece. You can take her “Captivating Watercolors” Workshops at Daniel Smith in Seattle, Washington or with Arts Central in Bend, Oregon. She also sometimes teaches group and private lessons in her studio. Cindy’s work is featured in a number of galleries, at special events and in private and corporate collections.
